What is Erudition Online?
Erudition Online is a non-profit monthly published e-zine on three core subjects: Arts & Culture, Science & Technology and Internet & World Wide Web.
What does Erudition mean?
Erudition means learned, scholarly or extensive knowledge etc. "Online" simply differentiates itself from other physical Publications.
How Erudition Online started?
In dec. 2002, I was discussing with Tee Emm about an online community of IT professionals, to which he agreed to moderate Networking segment. The idea, however, evolved into an e-zine for three major segments of education and learning.
Ejaz Asi is an Information Designer and founder of Erudition Online. He currently drives the content management strategies of iPaki. From story boards to "wire frame design" and final serving of content through Web Standards compliant code, he makes sure the separation of structure from presentation.
Most of the editorial process is then handled by Hina Amaan and each issue's themes and interviews are done by Hala Bashir. Then come the valuable authors and contributors without whom the layouts, concepts, CSS files would have been mere practice ground. And surely, like all good and great web sites, the users from varied fields of life are the driving force of life and energy for Erudition Online.
Who funds Erudition Online?
Erudition Online has been the labor of love of one man and the support of dozen bright minds like Farah Mahbub, Tee Emm, Nigel Peck, Sabeen Mahmud, Ahsan Riaz and recently Khalid Omer among others. Erudition discourages bad advertisements which are increasingly obtrusive, annoying and counter-productive. The banners you see on the web site are compensation given to Authors and contributors of e zine. If you want to sponsor any portion of the site, or donate some money, contact me so I could initiate the process.
Why doesn't your web site look same in all browsers?
In fact, in all modern browsers, who support Web Standards, it should look same. However, Lack of support of Web Standards in our browsers has already been addressed by Zeldman at AlistApart. Since start of this e zine, all code has been "search engine friendly" and backed by the recommendations of World Wide Web Consortium guys. This site is accessible to "EveryOne" with an Internet connection, yet if your browser may not support Web Standards, for heaven's sake, Upgrade your browser - it's the end of 2003.
